Grandmaster Chess Terms of Service
Last updated: 8 November 2026
These terms apply to the Grandmaster Chess – Play as GM app ("the app") on Android and iOS. The app is made by Nabendu Sinha ("we", "us"), an individual developer based in the United Kingdom. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Using the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You must not copy, resell, reverse-engineer (except as the law allows) or misuse the app, interfere with its servers, or use it to break any law.
2. Accounts
You can play as a guest or sign in with Google or Apple. You're responsible for keeping access to your sign-in account secure. You can log out at any time, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
3. Leaderboards
If you play the daily game, your result is shown on a public leaderboard with the name from your Google or Apple account (or "Anonymous" for guests). We may remove results that appear to come from cheating or misuse.
4. Grandmaster Chess Pro and other purchases
- Grandmaster Chess Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly or yearly. The price and what's included are shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment is taken by Google Play or the App Store when you confirm your purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Google Play or Apple Account subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Google or Apple under their own refund policies. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
- If you're using the iOS app, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
5. Free features and ads
Some features are free with daily limits, and the free version may show ads from Google AdMob. We may change which features are free, limited or included in Pro. If we take away a feature that's part of Pro, we'll do our best to replace it or let you know in advance.
6. Games you import
"Play Your Own Games" lets you import chess games (PGN files, pasted text or Lichess links). Imported games are stored on your device. Only import games you're allowed to use. Games fetched from Lichess are downloaded from Lichess's public service and are subject to Lichess's own terms.
7. Chess content and engine analysis
The famous games in the app come from the historical record of chess, and the commentary is for learning and entertainment. Engine analysis is produced by Stockfish, a free open-source chess engine licensed under the GNU General Public License v3 (see About & Licenses in the app's Settings). Engine evaluations are computer estimates and may not always be correct.
8. Our content
The app's design, text, commentary, graphics and code (apart from open-source parts used under their own licences) belong to us or our licensors. You may share screenshots and your results, but please don't copy or republish the app's content in bulk.
9. Privacy
How we handle information is explained in our Privacy Policy.
10. Availability and changes
We work to keep the app running smoothly but can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may update, change or stop parts of the app. If we stop offering Pro, we'll stop future renewals.
11. Liability
The app is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Ending these terms
You can stop using the app and delete it at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or on this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere, you also keep any rights you have under the consumer laws of your country, and you can bring claims in your local courts.
